Root Canal Treatments Book a Consultation Root canal treatment (endodontics) is used to treat infection at the centre of a tooth, often saving a tooth that might otherwise need to be removed. Teeth are living parts of the body. They comprise of a hard outer covering of enamel, a softer material under this called dentine and a nerve and blood supply to the tooth. This nerve can become inflamed resulting in sensitivity, toothache and/or a dental abscess. Root canal treatment is required when the damage to the nerve is irreversible. It is necessary to clean out the space where the nerve lies and to seal that space to prevent further infection or inflammation. Commonly the nerve is damaged due to trauma (a blow), tooth decay, gum disease, tooth wear or abrasion/erosion. How we perform root canal treatment Before having root canal treatment, you’ll usually be given a local anaesthetic to make the procedure more comfortable. Root canal treatment can take a number of visits depending on how complex the shape of the nerve canal system is or how soon the infection settles. Treatment is usually carried out under a dental rubber dam to protect the tooth from bacterial recolonisation from the saliva. There are several techniques used to clean and shape root canals, which involve using fine metal instruments called files. Invisalign Straightening Book a Consultation Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment using a series of clear aligners to move teeth into position. Unlike traditional metal braces, Invisalign uses a series of custom-made, clear, plastic aligners that cover your teeth and move them gently into position. They are clear and less noticeable than traditional braces, and can be removed for cleaning your teeth, eating and drinking. Invisalign 3D scanning technology is used to assess and plan your clear aligner treatment. The unique ClinCheck software allows you to see how the series of aligners will move your teeth into their projected position, so you can see how your teeth will look before the start of treatment. Once finalised, the scans are sent to the laboratory to make your clear aligners. You will return to collect your aligners and be given instructions on use. You wear each set of aligners for a minimum of 22 hours a day for 1-2 weeks, until they become ‘passive’, before moving on to the next aligner in the series. Making brushing fun for children Here are tips to make brushing time easier 1 Sing your child's favourite song or play your child's favourite tune This can distract them during brushing and make it a more pleasant experience 4 Use play to get your child to open up Don't force, but encourage them by pulling funny faces. Each time they open up, brush a few more teeth 2 Lead by example Brush your teeth with your child to show how brushing is done, then take over towards the end. This will ensure your child's teeth are thoroughly brushed and that they do not swallow the toothpaste 5 Use lots of cheers Give praise and encouragement, especially for good behaviours like opening their mouth and allowing you to brush 3 Don't be afraid to hold them If they move their head away from the brush, try sitting them on your lap and gently hold their forehead 6 Some brushing with fluoride toothpaste is better than none Stay positive, don't give up, and remember you are not alone!
